Oreo's Marketing & Campaigns
If you follow Oreo, then you know the brand takes strong initiative to market to various audiences on a regular basis. Oreo is a powerhouse on social media with over 43 million followers on Facebook, 85 thousand on Twitter, 2.5 million on Instagram and over 8 million views on some of their videos on YouTube. They must have a crew on standby 24/7 because they are consistently producing quality content on their social sites. Their marketing efforts make me more likely to purchase their treats because they always stay trendy to what’s happening. For example, when the lights went out during the Super Bowl a couple of years ago Oreo posted on Twitter “Power out? No Problem. You can still dunk an Oreo in the Dark”. This was 5 minutes during the blackout and they were able to create and post it during this unusual tie. They also introduced their #PlayWithOreo campaign on Instagram which encouraged followers to create their own Instagram shots including an Oreo in the photo. These examples are truly effective because the company innovates in real time and their level of engagement is so rewarding that they have become more than a well-known brand to society. Oreo Cookie’s target markets are children and young adults. More specifically individuals aged from 6 to 18 years old but also parents since they have the purchasing power that is used for younger aged individuals. I believe they can be more effective in pushing out more of their products into the big chain stores. They include hundreds of variations of their products but only a handful actually end up in stores. It's fair to say that Oreo is a strong company as they are able to introduce their campaigns and products effectively through the various social media platforms they are on.
Aren't Oreos everyone's favorite treat? I enjoy their TV commercial that shows the father and daughter lying in the back of their truck and using one piece of the Oreo to create the center of a constellation. I think Oreos are a favorite of the baby boomer generation and we are quick to share them with our children and grandchildren. Every grandpa that I know shows his toddler grandchild how to separate an Oreo and dunk it into a glass of mile.
