How unlikely partners Nike and HQ Trivia promoted #AirMax day on Social Media

If you are not familiar with HQ Trivia it is a live trivia show that happens a couple of times a day and everyone can compete for real money through their app. The lure of real money, how the questions get more difficult, and the personality of the host are why people are hooked. Often times sponsors will sponsor the prize money in exchange for advertisement during the game and recognition for sponsoring the prize money.



If you do not know the brand Nike somehow, they are one of the largest shoe and sportswear companies in the world. They are iconic, and the bar is high when it comes to who they partner with.

The unlikely partnership seems odd at first when you think about what to the two companies have in common. I am betting its the demographical ties more than anything being that people that are playing HQ Trivia are right in Nikes sweet spot for marketing. 

The prizes and the the fact that both companies promoted #AirMax day on their respective social channels. They gave away $100,000 and special edition AirMax 270's decked out in the HQ Trivia colors. There were four winners and it must have worked because there are have been numerous partnerships announced after this Nike promotion which was the first of its kind on the HQ Trivia platform.

As a sneaker head and an avid app user myself this promotion has peaked my interest mainly for the chance to try a new app and win some money, the bonus is the custom kicks. I think this is effective for both companies because of the hook. For the Nike fans you have a chance to win kicks that money can't buy, if you are a trivia HQ fan you get a chance at a larger prize due to Nike kicking in the funds. The positive association for both of the brands had to be huge.

I tip my hat to who came up with and pitched this unlikely promotional alliance which was innovative and one of the best of 2018 so far. I don't think you can do it much better than this.
